Winscombe Orchestra

About The Orchestra

Winscombe Orchestra, founded in 1974 with 10 players, is now a full and thriving orchestra. We usually perform three programmes a year in the Friends Meeting House at Sidcot and in All Saints' Church, Weston-super-Mare. We are entirely self-funding, and also contribute to charitable causes.

Our enthusiastic conductor, Mark Gateshill, was appointed in September 2009. He has extensive professional experience as a conductor, player, and music teacher. Under his expert guidance we are playing exciting programmes and increasing our audiences.

New players of appropriate standard are welcomed and supported; some may be experienced orchestral players, while for others this may be a new experience. There are no auditions.

At present, the orchestra is particularly looking for more string players, especially violins of grade 7 or above.

If you want to know more about the orchestra, please contact the secretary, Rachel Stainer, email: secretary (at) winscombeorchestra.org.uk.
